CSA # 12 Aug 24 th
Hi everybody
This is your last summer basket for 2013! As always, I would like to express the biggest thank you from my husband and I. Mostly for your contribution in supporting our small farm, our lively hood but also for your choosing local-organic and your openness to what will appear in your baskets! We really appreciate being in contact with the people that this type of business brings, it's a very positive circle.
I hope you enjoyed the experience and that it brought something of value to you. It sure was a salad kind of summer as opposed to last year's no salad summer. Each growing season is different and seems to bring with it an abundance of different crops. As we get used to growing each crop and concentrating on so many areas of production at the same time hopefully we can master this juggling act! The most important thing is to make sure that you are getting your value each week.
This week your baskets contain:
2 bags of Lettuce Mix
1 bag of cherry tomatoes
1 bag of tomatoes
1 bag of beans or eggplants
1 bag of sprouts sun or pea
1 bag of mixed herbs
1 small sample of our zucchini relish
Here is the recipe for my Salsa that I sell in the store All the different color tomatoes really work well with this.
Chez Nous Salsa
3 ripe tomatoes ( i love to add cherries also)
1 small pepper ( i usually use a small hot pepper if using a sweet maybe only half since they are usually bigger)
herbs ( as much as u want from 2 tablespoons to 1 cup) parsley, cilantro, oregano, mint
1-2 limes
1/4 to 1/2 red onion
1 small garlic clove
big splash of olive oil
1 tsp tomato paste (also great without)
1-2 tsp of cumin
salt to taste..1/2 to 1 tsp
Chop tomatoes and let drain colander to remove excess water.
Add rest of ingredients.
Taste best when eaten right away but may also be refrigerated.
The recipe for the zucchini relish was in last weeks letter. I will have some for sale also. It is really good on hamburgers or sausage.
Here's my ingredient selection
Freshly disked field with chickens in their pasture and movable coop. It's moved every day or other day, lots of work!
Morning sun - up front some beautifully germinated carrot beds!
I cannot resist taking pictures...of beautiful vegetables! Crnkovic Yugoslavian Tomatoes on left and Aunt Ginny on right.
